Mel represented my husband and me in the listing and sale of our home recently. We were extremely impressed with her professionalism and knowledge of, not only real estate in general but also the local market. She was very responsive and well-prepared. We initially contacted her about 1 1/2 years ago to sell our home and we postponed due to potential changes in my husband's employment. Once we had set plans, we contacted her again and she was eager and willing to help us list and sell our home. We really appreciated her patience while we sorted things out. She is very genuine and not pushy on the sales-front, which was important to us. Mel is also very trustworthy. We moved from the area before our home was sold and naturally, we were worried to leave our home in the hands of someone else, but she took care of our home like it was her own all throughout the listing time up until we closed on the sale of the home. Mel succeeded in highlighting the features of our home and marketing it well so that it sold quickly. We would not hesitate to recommend Mel to anyone looking for a realtor to represent them with listing their home for sale. She is wonderful!

We found Mel by chance, but I'm so glad we did!She is full of great information, which was very helpful for me, a first-time homebuyer. She was able to quickly narrow down exactly the type of home we were looking for and presented us with many viable options.When the home we had picked out as a favorite came on the market, she informed us as soon as she could so we could jump on the opportunity before anyone else! We ended up submitting one of the only offers on our dream home, even in a market crowded with buyers.Mel's fantastic and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to purchase a home.

In Mel we found a very brilliant and supportive Real Estate Professional! Mel knows the area she is working in, she is very knowledgeable of the process of house hunting, and she was very sensitive to our specific needs. She helped us find and then then nail the best fit in the shortest amount of time. In just a single month, she guided us through the nescessary steps that led to a fast closing! And that was not all: Then she provided us with a long list contractor phone numbers (we are very new to this area), and she is still checking in with us to ask if she can be of help in any way.We highly recommend Mel 's service! She is the BEST!

My husband and I just purchased our house in Berkeley with Mel Selvidge, and we are extremely satisfied with Mel's work.First of all, Mel is very knowledgable. She is a local who's started in real estate out of her passion for architecture. So she knew Berkeley and Oakland extremely well and was able to provide objective descriptions of the neighborhoods, their characteristics, history, and population.Second, Mel is honest. Acquiring a house is an intense process, and trust is extremely important. You don't want to feel that the broker you are working with is pushing you, but rather someone who takes into account your opinion and goals. Over the 3.5 months of our house search, we visited 4 to 5 houses every week end, for a total of probably ~ 30 houses and bid on 5 houses in total until it worked out. Mel helped us learn from each visit what exactly we were looking for, always with patience and intelligence.Third, she is very professional. It took us 3.5 months to find our house and we've spent almost every week end touring with Mel. She would select 4-5 houses based on her Thursdays visits for our week end tour, and then take us in her car to tour on sat or sun. She also helped prepare all the paperwork and presented our offers. Everytime, being extremely responsive (to the minute!) following with the mortgage company till the very end. We are so grateful to have found Mel that we could write an even longer review! She's top notch, from beginning to end!

Mel was an excellent guide, mentor and professional facilitator in helping me find just the right sort of place I can comfortably call home. She took me through every step, provided great local insight and considerations, and helped calm my extreme nerves in an equally extreme housing market. Mel is prompt, personable, and quick to respond to any queries. To think that I may not have ended up where I did, had I not worked with her, is a scary thought. So it's great relief that she was immediately clear, helpful and inquisitive of my needs from the very first phone call. I wholeheartedly recommend Mel in helping you find your new home!

Working with Mel was wonderful. From our first meeting with her, we knew we didn't want to work with anyone else. She quickly learned our tastes (and probably knew them even better than we did ourselves) and gave us optimistic advice that also reflected the reality of each situation. On every tour, she showed us houses to give us a sense for the market and hidden gems that she thought we would like better (and she was right). She is highly knowledgeable about Berkeley housing and well-connected in the neighborhood. It's amazing how many people she knows-- from other agents to contractors and inspectors! Her connections, savviness, and easy ability to gain trust and friendship were the keys to landing us our house. We almost didn't get the house when the sellers took it off the market at the last minute. But, Mel kept in touch with the listing agent and the relationships she built got us the house. In such a competitive market, having a well-connected real-estate professional is essential. Up through the close, she remained attentive and considerate. We highly recommend Mel!
